After my GSX-S1000 GT got knocked over while it was parked up, I had to deliver it back to Suzuki GB so they could assess damage and start dealing with the insurance claim.
Despite being knocked over and needing a new swingarm (as well as other little bits and bobs), the damage was mostly cosmetic, and the old girl got me all the way back from Scotland without missing a beat.
As a replacement bike for a month, I was handed the keys to the new Gen 3 Hayabusa, and I swear I felt two little horns emerging from the top of my head as I grinned at the mechanic and swung a leg over the ’Busa. This was going to be fun.
Or was it?
It’s been a while…
I hadn’t ridden a Hayabusa since the original came out in 1999, and a lot has changed since then. The roads have got much more congested, they’re peppered with potholes, there are speed cameras everywhere, and so-called ‘safety’ camera vans lurk in the shadows, waiting to catch out the unwary. Could a 180bhp motorcycle capable of 194mph still be fun in this day and age?
