FORD ESCORT 1970-80

FORD VERY nearly turned the Japanese small-car tide with its conservative but groundbreaking Escort.
FORD ESCORT 1970-80

The original Escort was developed in England, but most of the work on Mark 2 versions was carried out by Ford of Germany. Both models were traditional in layout and suspension design, with rear-wheel drive, MacPherson-strut front and leaf-sprung rear suspensions.

In Australia, the Mark 1 Escort was sold in L, XL and Twin Cam/1600GT form. Five years later when Mark 2 versions were announced, a better-equipped Ghia was included but the Twin Cam, which lasted here only until 1972, was not replaced.
