When a car wins three World Car of the Year titles, you can’t help but take notice. When it happens to be an EV, your curiosity is piqued. And when one of those prestigious titles is the coveted main WCOTY award, you find yourself in a state of awe and wonder if what you are looking at is the future itself.
Now, this WCOTY winner has made it to the Indian market. It’s not every day that a car arrives at the autoX office with the potential to captivate every member of the team. To some, it looked like a creation from a Sci-fi movie, while others appreciated the innovative use of recycled materials in its construction. And those who drove it couldn’t stop raving about its user-friendliness, remarkable comfort, and, impressive range, which blurs the distinction between an electric car and a conventional one.
TIMELESS ELEGANCE
Now, it may look like a machine from a Sci-fi movie, but that’s not to say that the IONIQ 5 will lose its charm anytime soon. Ten years ago, this thing would have been hailed as a car straight from the future, and guess what, the future arrived early in more ways than one. One of the biggest highlights of its design is the way Hyundai has managed to incorporate pixel-like design elements in the lights and the sharp lines tracing its body. Also, regardless of how long you look at it, it doesn’t look outright boxy. And all of this in a design that resembles a SUV – you have to give it to the Hyundai design team for simply nailing it! Suffice it to say that the IONIQ 5’s design is an inclusive masterpiece, catering to a broad spectrum of tastes, including that of the future.
