There is nothing I like more than telling stories about myself that make you snicker and hopefully remind you of simple things that need to be done to ensure your safety as well as your airboat's seaworthiness.
Recently, after my third airboat redfishing trip, I pulled the airboat out of the harbor at my house, because it was supposed to storm throughout the night, ahead of a tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico.
I just sleep better when the airboat is on the trailer, but it's nice to get an extra 15 minutes of sleep before a fishing trip when you are running three or four days straight, and it's even worse during duck season. Well, the alarm clock sounds, and I pound on it three times every five minutes and finally get up to head to the coffee machine. I am having coffee and looking at the weather, which is looking calm with a little north wind. Perfect! Then I get a text.
My customers are running early, and I realize my airboat is not launched and tied up at the dock awaiting their arrival. Kick it into high gear. I hate kicking it into high gear before 10 AM. Even during duck season, I'm just sleepwalking until the first group of ducks hit the deck.

The Beauty After the Storm

Stepping Up to Help Those in Need
Normally, Capt. Joshua Mattson owner of Airboat and Gator Charters out of Tedder's Fish Camp in DeLeon Springs, Florida, would have been doing tours all last month on the St. Johns River on his Diamondback airboat. They do eco airboat tours and provide gator hunts, fishing and bowfishing charters.

Nothing Beats a Good Challenge
Each year I lead guided trips in some of the most pressured gator waters in southern Georgia and use only archery equipment and my airboat to accomplish it. I love all things archery and a good challenge. I have owned airboats all my adult life and travel across the U.S. competing in bowfishing tournaments.
