SL stands for "sport light," yet surprisingly the latest model is the first to be developed with the company's AMG performance division.
The original 1954 SL was a design icon, featuring roof-hinged doors that bestowed on the car a new name, Gullwing. However, the 2023 SL is more in line with current Mercedes values, most obviously an enormous front grille that is similar to those of lesser vehicles in the brand's range.
