SUMAN SHARMA CHATS WITH PRATIK GANDHI, THE EVERYMAN HERO WHO HAS FLOORED EVERYONE WITH THE NATURAL EASE HE SHOWS IN HIS ACTING
a simple man

We’d been chasing Pratik Gandhi for many moons. The Scam 1992 star has been super busy of late. He was last seen in Modern Love Mumbai and made an impression playing a gay character in the segment titled Baai. We hear of him being cast as Mahatma Phule and even Mahatma Gandhi. He’ll also be seen in the horror comedy Atithi Bhooto Bhava and the romcom Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan, where he’ll be sharing screen space with Taapsee Pannu. He was shooting for Ritesh Sethi’s Dhoom Dhamaka opposite Yami Gautam Dhar at Mira Road and called us on the sets for a chat. The director called for a break at 11 p.m. and we rushed to his van where he talked with us, even as his hair and makeup got touched up. No Pratik interview would be complete without mentioning the success of Scam 1992. Ask him about him and he beams with pleasure. He reveals that the hit series changed his life overnight. “Scam gave me a bigger audience. I feel that acceptance is essential for makers as well as actors. Earlier, I used to be concerned about getting work and about proving myself. Now I can explore myself on the sets in terms of acting. I am enjoying this new phase.”

Women's era

Kiran Rao, Payal Kapadia and Shuchi Talati are redefining contemporary Indian cinema by placing women at the centre of their narratives, offering a refreshing perspective through the female gaze. Their films, Laapataa Ladies, All We Imagine As Light, and Girls Will Be Girls, not only explore women-oriented stories but also challenge the traditional male-dominated lens of storytelling, creating nuanced portrayals of women's experiences, aspirations and struggles.
