And after bonding over their shared hobby of beekeeping last month, former England football captain David happily chatted to the 75-year-old monarch about Euro 2024, saying: "We'll be ready." Meanwhile, Sir Rod couldn't resist the opportunity to tease David - an OBE - about knighthoods.
Delivering a short speech, he said: "Penny and I are so honoured to be ambassadors for the King's [Foundation]. I'm also wonderfully honoured to be a knight."
