Standing close together in a room full of some of their dearest friends, Simon Cowell and his fiancée Lauren Silverman take in all they have achieved.
The pair are proud to have helped organise a lunch to raise funds and awareness for the London Music Fund, a charity that helps young musicians from low-income families make the most of their talent.
They first came across the organisation, for which music mogul Simon is an ambassador and Lauren an adviser, when Tom Bower, husband of the charity’s cofounder and chair Veronica Wadley – Baroness Fleet – was writing a book about Simon.
“One evening, Veronica told us the details and asked us to get involved. We said: ‘One hundred per cent, yes,’” the Britain’s Got Talent judge tells hello!.
MUSIC MAKERS
At the start of the star-studded event, attended by guests including Sarah, Duchess of York and Princess Beatrice, Lauren delivered a passionate speech about the fund, which offers scholarships including instruments, tuition, mentors and concert visits to talented youngsters.
“I really wanted to get involved; not just because it’s something I am passionate about, but also because it fits in with what Simon does in giving young people opportunities to explore their talent,” she says.
Indeed, the couple’s ten-year-old son Eric has recently taken up the drums. “He is good,” Simon tells us. “It is really giving him confidence and he enjoys it.”
Lauren adds: “I love that he comes home from school and the first thing he wants to do is run into his bedroom and play the drums. That says it all. It’s such an amazing feeling to get to work on this with Simon. I love doing things like this with him.”
Speaking exclusively to hello! in his first joint interview with Lauren, Simon explains that he never thought he would become a father – but when it happened, it changed his life for ever.
