Stephanie Davis was so obsessed with starring on Coronation Street that, when she was just 13 years old, she wrote a poem about appearing on the cobbles. So the actress is thrilled to have now landed her dream role after a three-year hiatus from acting.
Stephanie, 30, has been acting since the age of seven, when her first job was playing Gretl von Trapp in a Liverpool production of The Sound Of Music. In 2010, she became a household name when she competed on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Over The Rainbow search for a star, and was later a runner-up in Celebrity Big Brother. She had a regular role in Hollyoaks from 2010 to 2015, playing Sinead O’Connor, and was brought back in 2018, when she filmed a harrowing rape story that won her numerous awards. She left the soap just a year later.
Now, Stephanie is back on our screens playing Courtney Vance – and she reveals that Coronation Street is a programme she’s always wanted to be part of.
“I couldn’t wait to hear the words, ‘Rolling and… action!’” says Stephanie. “I took a little video of myself when I heard it – I could have cried, I was so happy. It’s a dream come true. I was speaking to my mum the other day and she reminded me that when I was about 13, I wrote a poem that said, ‘One day I will be on the cobbles of Coronation Street.’ She put it in a bedside drawer and got it out the other day. She said it’s amazing that it was one of my dreams, and now I’m doing it.
