With unsettling thrillers such as Stranger Things, Yellowjackets and The Last Of Us regularly topping the streaming charts, horror is certainly on the rise – which is unfortunate for self-confessed “scaredy cat” Nick Grimshaw considering he’s subjected to the latest TV sensations on Celebrity Gogglebox.
“I do find [something like] Luther terrifying because that’s in London on the bus, and I get on the bus. So that for me is scarier than Saw [the film],” the 38-year-old says. “We’ve not got to a moment where we’ve refused to watch but there have been moments where we’ve watched stuff and it’s been traumatic and we’ve had to go outside for a minute.”
Despite being made to watch terrifying telly on the Channel 4 show – as well as the latest Love Island, standout soap storylines and the odd episode of Naked Attraction – Nick has stuck with Celebrity Gogglebox for the past four years and is back to star in the upcoming series.
“I’m really nosy,” he says, explaining why he loves the show so much. “I love seeing other houses and other ways of life and other families. There aren’t many things on TV now that are a shared experience. There used to be other big event moments on TV and there are fewer and fewer of them.”
