A DEVASTATED JOHN TRAVOLTA OPENS UP ABOUT THE LOSS OF HIS FORMER COSTAR AND CLOSE FRIEND OF MORE THAN FOUR DECADES, OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN.
The Olivia Only I Knew

ON Aug. 8, as news spread that beloved star Olivia NewtonO John had died of cancer at the age of 73, celebrity tributes began pouring in from the likes of Barbra Streisand, Elton John and Nicole Kidman and husband Keith Urban. "I am heartbroken," singing legend Frankie Valli wrote in a social media post. But perhaps the most touching message came from John Travolta, who played Danny Zuko to her Sandy Olsson in the 1978 hit Grease. "My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better," the 68-year-old wrote on Instagram alongside a throwback photo of his friend of 45 years. "I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!"

Onscreen and off, the pair were hopelessly devoted to each other. "We text each other all the time," the Pulp Fiction star has said, adding, "We love each other, and when you love someone you stay in touch." Throughout the years, the friends did more than that, helping each other through the heartbreak of divorce and the pain of losing loved ones. And John, an insider tells Star, was there for the Australian beauty as she battled breast cancer, first diagnosed in 1992, when it recurred in 2013 and again in 2017. "John was one of the last people Olivia talked to before she died."
