Apple updates MacBook Air with M3 chip

Apple tends to launch fresh products in the spring, and with a new MacBook Air already making an appearance this year, the company hasn’t let us down.

Alongside that good news, there’s even more that could be on the way.

Over the past few months, speculation mounted that Apple was going to update its MacBook Air line with M3 chips for better performance. That was expected to happen in March, and sure enough, a new M3 MacBook Air was revealed in the first week of the month. Apple says the new laptop’s chip is up to 60% faster than the M1 and 13 times quicker than the best Intel MacBook Air. That’s possibly a little bit of an unfair comparison, but the improvement over the M1 is certainly notable. Apple didn’t say what kind of upgrade you can expect over the M2, but we’ll be reviewing the new MacBook Air next issue – so stay tuned!

The new 13-inch MacBook Air with M3 chip starts at £1,099, while the 15-inch starts at £1,299.

Aside from the M3 chip, the new MacBook Air can support up to two external displays (as long as the lid is closed), while it also has Wi-Fi 6E for download speeds up to twice that of the M2 version. Both the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models got the update, so their upgrade cycles should no longer be out of step with each other.
