A FEW YEARS AGO, there was an explosion of high-end microphones from companies such as Razer, Blue, and HyperX. They’d clearly all realized there was a nascent market of wannabe streamers, YouTubers, and content creators who wanted to sound good and look cool when making video content. Jump forward to today, and there are still lots of aspiring Twitch superstars, but there are far more people working from home who want to sound clear in their Zoom meetings, and who still might want to make video game content or podcasts in their spare time. Enter the HyperX SoloCast, a cut-down version of the company’s existing mic offerings for a much more reasonable price.
Despite its RRP of $60, the SoloCast is readily available for $35, making it much cheaper than the QuadCast or QuadCast S that you may have seen capturing the audio for so many YouTubers out there. Unlike the large, cylindrical outline of the QuadCast, the SoloCast is much more compact, almost endearingly dinky in comparison. However, it still boasts that same reassuring feeling of quality, with a nice weight that keeps it planted to a desk, helped by the sturdy stand that comes included in the box.
