The rise in number of seats for MBBS programme at 64,285 in 2016 from 47,588 in 2013, across approved institutions by the Medical Council of India is indicative of the resolve taken by different stakeholders including the policy makers towards medical education in the country. Though this growth is not proportionate to the sheer need for medical doctors and allied professionals; the efforts in the direction are likely to show some positive outcomes in the domain. The number of medical institutions has also grown from 381 to 462 at present in the last three years, with the private ones resonating a bit louder than the public institutions at 54%.
