REACHING FOR THE STARS

Menswear designer RAJAT SURI went from not getting into his dream college to dressing up celebs. By Ravina M Sachdev

As a child, Rajat Suri, founder of the menswear brand Unit by Rajat Suri, would accompany his father and elder brother to specially-abled tailors to customise their suits and shirts. Little did he know back then that these trips would inspire him to take up fashion design professionally. "We used to carry our cloth with us, and the designs were all communicated in sign language without uttering a word," he recalls. "I was fascinated by the process and, as I grew up, I started taking my friends along with me to customise our school uniforms. Every summer and winter, we used to tweak some details in our boring school uniforms and make them more fun and well-fitted."
