It’s a glorious spring morning when TV Times arrives on the exterior set of Emmerdale, located just outside Leeds among acres of rolling countryside. We’ve been invited to join the cast and crew as they film the soap wedding of the year between Charity and Mackenzie, and we can’t wait to get a glimpse of the fictional bride in all her finery. But scanning the sea of famous faces, there’s no sign of a woman in white…

We’re quickly told that this isn’t your typical nuptials. In a storyline that will all make sense on screen, stars Emma Atkins and Lawrence Robb are dressed up as Hannibal and Face from 1980s American TV series The A-Team.

‘Out of all of Charity’s weddings, this is probably the weirdest and the most eccentric!’ laughs Emma. ‘But my outfit is really comfy, and I’m used to being shoved in wigs. And I loved The A-Team. As a kid, I watched it every Saturday night.’

In her 20-plus years in the Dales, Charity has made seven trips down the aisle, although only three have resulted in actual marriages – to Chris Tate (in 2001), Jai Sharma (in 2012) and Declan Macey (in 2014). But getting hitched is a whole new ball game for her toy-boy fiancé, Mackenzie.
