THE GREAT
NEW MON, 10PM & 11.10PM, C4 COMEDY
DRAMA (BOX SET, CHANNEL 4)
Can love conquer all? This is the question fans of The Great are clamouring to have answered as the third and final series of the candy-coated 18th-century romp arrives on C4 this week.
Last season's twist-filled finale saw a devastated Catherine the Great (played by Elle Fanning) attempt to murder her inept husband Peter III (Nicholas Hoult), whom she had overthrown as ruler of Russia, after discovering he had slept with, and then accidentally killed, her mother, Joanna (Gillian Anderson).
However, the Empress inadvertently attacked his body double, Yemelyan Pugachev (also portrayed by Nicholas), instead, only to realise that, despite Peter's flaws, she still loves him.
Now, the new 10-part run finds Catherine and Peter trying to make their relationship work as they embark on marriage counselling.
