HOLLIDAY GRAINGER on why the stakes are higher than ever as her high-tech thriller returns

Seeing is DECEIVING

THE CAPTURE SUNDAY & MONDAY, 9 PM, BBC1 DRAMA

The first season of The Capture became a word-of-mouth hit when it aired in 2019, with viewers gripped by a series of shocking twists as dogged cop Rachel Carey embarked on a dangerous mission to bring down a shady intelligence department.

Now, as the conspiracy thriller returns to BBC1 for a second six-part run, Carey (Holliday Grainger) has apparently abandoned her moral code to work for the ‘Correction’ unit, who manipulate CCTV footage and fake events, ostensibly in the name of national security.

Carey, who has been promoted to DCI, soon becomes intrigued by a bizarre murder that, according to CCTV, has been carried out by a seemingly invisible assassin.

Connections soon emerge to high-profile MP and Security Minister Isaac Turner (played by The Lazarus Project’s Paapa Essiedu, who follows in Callum Turner’s footsteps as the new guest lead for this series), who’s worried about an enigmatic Chinese company that wants to introduce facial-recognition technology into UK airports.

But who – if anyone – can really be trusted?

As TV Times joins Holliday, 34, for an exclusive interview, we tried to find out…

What has it been like to return to The Capture?

I was really excited to read the next installment! Ben Chanan [the show’s creator] is so clever at writing suspense and questions, and there’s way more of that in season two.
