MIRACLE weight-loss drugs have made headlines plenty of times over the past year. Celebs have either opened up about using Ozempic to lose weight, denied that they're on it or told cautionary tales about the terrible side-effects they can cause.
Originally approved as a medication to treat type 2 diabetes, the once-a-week injectable drug soared in popularity thanks to its weight-loss effects. But as with any medication, it can have side-effects, and for some people these are severe. Nausea, vomiting, constipation and heartburn are among the most common.
British TV personality Sharon Osbourne admitted to feeling awful in the beginning "because you just throw up all the time". She carried on using it and went on to lose 19kg but has since revealed she's stopped injecting herself with Ozempic because she felt she'd lost too much weight, was constantly thirsty and had no appetite.
The substance in Ozempic that affects appetite is its active ingredient, semaglutide. It works by mimicking the action of a hormone called GLP-1, which is released by the gut after a meal. GLP-1 is the hormone that signals to your brain that you're full, and so stops you from overeating.
And yes, you've guessed it - there are certain foods that trigger the release of this fullness hormone in your gut. Losing weight is of course a complex issue that's affected by many factors, including your genetic makeup, family history, how active you are, how much sleep you get, and what medications you're on.
What you eat is arguably the biggest lifestyle factor, however, and you can help regulate your appetite naturally by eating foods that trigger the release of GLP-1 and make you feel full. Here are the foods you should stock up on.
