But sometimes it isn’t as easy as it sounds and it can end up being rather similar to having another child in the family. Some siblings see the new addition as a friend, others as a rival for their parents’ attention.

Similarly your resident pooch may not react as well as you hoped. It could see the newcomer as a threat to its territory or as a rival for your affection.

Even dogs that play well with other dogs at daycare or at the local park can change behaviour.

But that doesn’t mean you should ditch the idea. Here are some things to consider.
