A born artist, over the years, Paula Crevoshay has mastered the art of balancing creativity and science. She speaks to Vijetha Rangabashyam about her very creative upbringing, her innate ability to delve deep and study every subject she’s working on, her love for colours, preserving the wonders of Nature through her creations and more

No two pieces of Paula Crevoshay are similar. Beautiful creatures of Nature come alive cloaked in carefully handpicked gemstones. Flowers blossom radiantly in sapphires of every shade. Pieces from her Endangered Species collection is truly inspired – the play of colours and the sublime craftsmanship, it is as though the animals are conversing with you. A Fine Arts graduate, Crevoshay started off her career as a painter, but after having lived in India for four years in the 70s, she decided to channelise her creative spirit into creating beautiful jewellery. She has been creating remarkable, awe-inspiring pieces for over three decades, and every one of them makes you fall in love with Nature, all over again.

You have been crafting jewellery for over three decades – what motivates you to create one-of-a-kind, inimitable pieces every single time?

I only create original works of art because jewellery is one of the most ancient disciplines of the Fine Arts. Among the attributes of Fine Art, is it must be unique and original. Also, in Nature nothing is the same as another so jewellery inspired by Nature should similarly be unique. Making only Fine Art jewels is my way of honouring the unique personality of the wearer, which is so special.

How does your childhood and upbringing influence your thought process and design sensibilities?
