JANINE SHROFF HAS a deep loyalty towards her craft. She creates art for art’s sake and is clear about drawing boundaries between her bread-winning day job as an illustrator and the unbridled artistic pursuits that claim her post her 9-to-5 grind. In a way, I have deliberately compartmentalised my work. I was told repeatedly by algorithms and censorship that there are some things you cant share. For me, painting is about the self and reflecting internally. Work is about what other people want, whereas painting is the literal opposite; it’s completely selfish,” she explains.
