Though many people have claimed that they invented the hamburger as a sandwich, there is little doubt that the modern hamburger was developed in the United States. Around the middle of the 20th century, it began to spread to other countries and became popular as fast food all over the globe.

Rajeev Verman, CEO of Burger King India has gone on record to state that being vegetarian became very important for all burger brands. He disclosed that Burger King, which had been serving primarily beef all across the world, when they came to India, made efforts to position itself as a snack outlet having a predominantly vegetarian menu. He claims that while Burger King has a large meat menu, they have one of the largest vegetarian menus in India's burger space.
