Such an honour to have you on Muscle & Fitness Hers, everyone has their own special story about how they got involved in health and fitness. Could you tell us a little bit about your journey to where you are today?
I started Pole Sports as an enthusiast around 5 years ago. As a youth athlete, I trained as an amateur competitive figure skater and enjoyed Kung Fu. I always participated in sport as a leisure activity to complement my busy academic schedule and institutional demands. I fell out of sport in university, and I didn’t like the way I felt or looked. I had gained over 50 pounds, slept all the time, and generally just felt terrible. I became inspired to take sport and fitness seriously again after joining a pole sports team and attending the world championships in the USA with Team Canada as a clerical volunteer. Today, I own an aerial gym and have completed my national coach’s certification. I have won several national medals and recently competed in my first Pole Sports and Arts World Federation (POSA) world championship this past December in Italy as an amateur athlete. I was so excited to attend as a member of Team Canada. I have regained a confidence in my body, and I feel so much healthier.
Wow! Sounds like you had a complete change in lifestyle. How did you go about accomplishing that for yourself? What were some of the challenges you faced?
