A fresh approach
JC and Wim Steyn of Linden, Johannesburg decided to create a modern farm-style feel to honour the heritage of the area when they redesigned and renovated their 1970s home (it now operates as boutique guesthouse On 9th Street).
The outdoor shower linked to the JHB room (all the suites are named after a different SA city) does just that with simple finishes such as painted brick and plain cement screed combined with exposed copper piping.
The window was positioned high up for privacy, while ensuring a view of the trees and garden. “We feel it’s important to be able to connect with nature and the elements,” explains JC.
