YVES SAINT LAURENT FIRST VISITED MOROCCO in 1966 and was immediately drawn to the country's vibrant culture and traditional architecture; and so it was fitting that it was here, the Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2023 menswear show felt right at home.
Its namesake founder had spent a significant amount of time in its unofficial capital city of Marrakech, where he lived and worked. Owning two homes there - one named Villa Oasis, and another which he christened after French painter Jacques Majorelle who owned it before him - Saint Laurent used his time in the exotic locale to gather inspiration for his fashion collections, and often incorporated traditional Moroccan elements into his designs.
