Body Odours You Shouldn't Ignore

THOUGH IT'S NATURAL for our bodies to have certain smells, some unusual or intense odours could signal underlying health issues. While it might be tempting to cover it up with deodorants or perfumes, there are certain scents that deserve some closer attention.

These ten body odours could warrant a visit to the doctor.

FRUITY OR SWEET BREATH

If your breath smells unusually sweet, like fruit or acetone, it could be a sign of diabetes. This condition is known as diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), which occurs when blood sugar levels become dangerously high and the body starts breaking down fat for energy. If left untreated, DKA can lead to life-threatening complications, so if you notice this scent consult a doctor immediately.

FISHY ODOUR

A persistent fishy odour, especially from sweat, could indicate a rare metabolic disorder called trimethylaminuria. With this condition the body is unable to break down a compound called trimethylamine, which is produced in the gut when bacteria break down certain foods. This condition can cause sweat, breath and urine to smell strongly of fish.
