FORGET RECIPROCITY, IT JUST FEELS GOOD TO DO GOOD

I’ve always tried to help people. I worked with Samaritans – a helpline support service – when I lived in London in the late ’60s. I absolutely loved it.

When I got back to Australia, I’d been away three years and I wanted to do the same thing here. I made some enquiries but in those days you virtually had to have a degree to volunteer for Lifeline. I thought, “If they won’t take me I’ll do it with my own friends and people I meet.” So that’s what I’ve tried to do.
