A towering sundial stands erect in the snowy landscape of Zermatt, the Matterhorn - the most recognisable peak in the Swiss Alps - looming in the background. It serves as the defining piece of the "Light & Time" installation by Daniel Arsham, who created it in commemoration of his recently announced role as a Hublot Ambassador. The 20-metre sundial celebrates not only the eternal links between watchmaking, art and craft, but also marks the beginning of an exciting collaboration between Arsham and Hublot.
What are the values that you share with Hublot?
Daniel Arsham: Craft is one of them. If you go to the Hublot factory and you go to my studio, they are complete opposites in terms of the way that they look. My process is often very messy and chaotic. This commitment to pushing against possibilities, the technical aspect of creating these devices that keep time based on mechanical movement, is something so magical when you see it happening.
