Malaysians are renowned for their generosity. But if there is one thing that brings donations out in droves, it’s an art show that’s connected to a charitable cause. KL has seen quite a few such shows this year and here are a few of the best that you can keep looking forward to support.
Rimau is an NGO that is committed to raising awareness among Malaysians about the precarious position of the Malayan Tiger. Already an endangered species, the Malayan Tiger faces the challenges of an ever-diminishing forest on the Malayan Peninsula, the only place where this beautiful big cat is found. Working with the UK-based Save the Tigers and Habitat Foundation, Rimau co-organised the largest Tiger photography show called ‘Eye on the Tiger’ at Star Hill Gallery in Kuala Lumpur. Part of the proceeds from the sales of the photographs were channeled to aid the works of conserving the dwindling population of the Malayan Tiger.
Later that month, Rimau and Gallerie TAKSU, one of KL’s leading art galleries, organised a charity group show called ‘Malaysia’s Last Tigers’. A total of 22 artists contributed to the show, with a percentage of proceeds going to Rimau for their conservation work. One can easily follow them on their socials to find out what else they’ve got in the pipeline.
