A growing trend at beauty events is personal colour analysis. I've seen clips of sessions on social media, but I recently experienced one firsthand at a beauty brand activation. While the session lasted just 10 minutes - much shorter than the typical 1.5 hours - it offered valuable insights.
Seated in front of a brightly lit mirror, ideally without make-up, the participant's base skin tone is assessed by the consultant.
Multi-coloured drapes - ranging from primary colours like red, yellow and blue to shades of brown, green, gold and silver - are then placed around the neck, with the consultant explaining how each colour either brightens or dulls the face. The goal is to identify the colours that are most complementary to the individual's skin tone.
Content creator Chloe Ng underwent a personalised colour analysis last year to find out which colours are more flattering on her skin. She discovered that she has cool-toned skin with pink or blue undertones. When purchasing make-up, she now gravitates towards more muted colors that feature a bit of grey. One of her favourite brands is Chantecaille, which has make-up palettes catering to either cool or warm tones.
"Whenever I wear their blush, I always receive many compliments," shares Ng.
