As people grow and experience various incidents in their lives they form certain good and bad habits that they become accustomed to. While the good habits are good, it's the bad habits that will destroy their health, relations, careers, etc. A habit is like our pet shoes or shirts that we can't get rid of even if they are torn or dirty. Most people do want to change their habits but don't know how to do it.
This is because changing habits is difficult. But why is it difficult? Here are a few reasons.
Reason-1: Habits are deeply ingrained in our brains. Since people would have been doing them for years or decades they become an involuntary or automatic response or action. Examples are smoking, drinking, foul language, unhygienic behaviors, etc. So, it's tough to break them unless you pause when the bad habit urges you to continue.
Reason-2: Habits give people a sense of comfort or control. They feel like they are in charge. Besides, why break them if they make you happy? So, trying to break a habit will make you uncomfortable as it disrupts your daily routine.
Reason-3: Changing old habits and forming new ones requires time, effort, money, and a willingness to change. Besides, the ego will be a roadblock. Also, as people age and become lonely, they will lose interest in life and don't see any advantage in changing their habits. They may think - Why bother when I have nothing else to prove?
