Maithili Thakur was born on 25 July 2000 in an Indian family having roots in classical singing and music to Pandit Sri. Ramesh Thakur and Smt. Bharti Thakur. She is named after the goddess Sita as well as her mother tongue. Maithili, along with her two brothers, Rishav and Ayachi was trained by their grandfather and father in Maithili Folk, Hindustani classical music, Harmonium and Tabla.

Realizing his daughter's potential at the tender age of 6, her father relocated to Dwarka in New Delhi to launch her as a talented child artist. Maithili and her brothers studied at Bal Bhavan International School where they won various State and National Level Competitions. She was interested in singing since her childhood. She started learning music from her grandfather when she was only 4 years old. Maithili's first music master is her grandfather. At the age of 10, she started singing at musical functions accompanied by both of her siblings playing the musical instruments.
