It all started with an emerald. Not just any emerald but the Insofu emerald, a rare 6,225-carat gem unearthed from the Kagem mine in Zambia that Chopard bought at auction in 2018. Not only did this monumental acquisition spark conversations in the jewellery world, years later, its resplendence and magic has inspired a momentous collaboration between two creative minds.
Chopard's co-president and artistic director Caroline Scheufele had enlisted expert emerald cutters from India to carefully study the Insofu emerald, in order to best reveal its unique characteristics. After the cutting process took place in Chopard's Geneva workshops and in Jaipur, India, the first stones from the special rough have finally been unveiled in a unique project befitting the occasion: a high jewellery capsule collection, in collaboration with American actress Julia Roberts.
