Three women chat to Savanna Douglas about how they will welcome growth this year

The New Year is synonymous with the shifts and changes we experience in life. It’s a time to reflect on our achievements and losses and recalibrate our dreams and goals.

ALANI KEISER 

43, is a musician and voice-over artist who lives in Northcliff with her cat, Lulu. After suffering a year of serious health complications, Alani will release her first solo album, Chasing the Moon, and tour the US later this year.

‘Music has been with me since birth. Rodriguez, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, The Beach Boys, Commodores and other golden oldies formed the soundtrack to my childhood. When I was 6, I put on a concert as Madonna, and at 16, I started writing poetry that I later turned into songs. At 44, I will release my first solo album and tour the US performing.

‘I’ve always felt I’ve got something to tell the world, but I only decided to officially chase the dream of becoming a recording artist at 40, when my dear friend, songwriter Nancy King and I wrote a song called ‘Grey Grey Love’, which we recorded professionally with producer Mark Beling.

‘Nancy and I went on to record over 40 singles together with Mark, and I began working on my first studio album with him. As my dreams finally began to take root, my health took a turn for the worst.
