SCOPES FOR EVEN MORE!

AVELEY may have created more club history with a strong start to their first ever Step 2 campaign but boss Danny Scopes isn’t looking that far ahead — it’s too scary!

SCOPES FOR EVEN MORE!

The Millers have arrived in the National League South following back-to-back promotions.

A 4-1 win over Taunton Town brought an historic three points for the club following a narrow opening day defeat to Chippenham.

Scopes’ side backed that up with wins over fancied Eastbourne Borough and fast-starting Worthing.

The former Concord Rangers manager says his players can only take confidence in a division that has some big hitters — but it’s a cup final mindset going forward.

“We said it when we went into Step 3, but if you keep looking ahead at the fixtures then I think it can become a little bit scary and daunting,” Scopes told The NLP.

“When you look at the established teams, the quality teams, you’re going to play it has to be one game at a time.

“It’s a cup final and it’s up to us to compete and see what we can get. Win, lose or draw, we’ll digest it and move onto that next cup final.

“If you start setting targets and challenges, ‘we’ve got to win this many points out of this many games’ then you can scare yourselves a little bit.

“I don’t think we will be favourites in any games as well and that can be a good place to be as well with that underdog tag.”
