A Two-month-old boy admitted to a private hospital in Ahmedabad has been detected with Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) infection, an official said on Monday.
Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel asked people not to panic and said the state government has made preparations to tackle the viral infection.
Patel said, "HMPV is not a new virus. It has been identified since 2001. In Gujarat, arrangements will be made from the district hospital to the hospital affiliated to the medical colleges and civil hospitals for the diagnosis of HMPV cases.
"From next week, the cases can be diagnosed too in the state. This virus is seen during the winter season, especially in young children and the elderly, and its symptoms include the common cold and flu."
