A day after the arrest of 14 fake doctors from Surat, it has emerged that a few thousand such ill-qualified persons are already practicing medicine in the state. The key accused, Rasesh Gujarathi, told investigators that he was just a small fry in the fake degree racket and that there are many like the self-proclaimed Board of Electro Homoeopathic Medicine (BEHM), which was busted recently, that are in the business of selling fake degrees.
"Gujarathi told us that others have provided degrees from such fake boards to more than 3,000 to 4,000 individuals who have opened hospitals. This confession has widened the scope of the investigation, and now we are looking into other cities and states where such scams have been operating," a senior Surat police official told Mirror.
