City police to hunt for 'number-less' vehicles

Starting June 21, they will seize vehicles without registration number plates

The City Crime Branch will begin a drive from June 21 to nab vehicles without any registration plates. Even vehicles that lack the proper registration plates will also be seized. The drive comes ahead of the Rath Yatra in the city. Earlier the city also reported several instances of schools and other establishments getting threat emails.

A crime branch official said during the July 26, 2008, serial blasts, which claimed more than 50 innocent lives, stolen vehicles with no number plates or fake number plates were used to stuff explosives. The city had seen 17 blasts at that time.
