A man posing as a judge has been arrested for issuing bogus arbitration orders in an attempt to seize government land worth crores.
The City Civil Court’s Registrar filed a complaint at Karanj Police Station following a court order by Judge J L Chovatia. The accused, Morris Samuel Christian, was arrested and investigations are ongoing. The court has also directed the police to seize computers and other equipment used in the fake court setup. This is not Christian’s first brush with the law. He was arrested earlier in 2015 by Maninagar Police for a similar offence.
The latest scam centred around a fraudulent arbitration scheme, with Christian acting as an arbitrator-judge and issuing fake judgments.
The new orders also address the controversial appointment of faculty members without relevant expertise as discipline heads.
