As Gujarat University (GU) prepares to welcome its first batch of international students for the 2024 academic year, a question mark hangs over the arrival of students from Bangladesh. Around 200 Bangladeshi students have secured admission to GU and affiliated colleges through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarship.
However, due to the recent political unrest in Bangladesh following the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, none of these students have arrived on campus as the new academic session begins.
Visa concerns and political turmoil
"The ambiguity surrounding the arrival of Bangladeshi students stems from uncertainties over visa issuance and scrutiny," explained Vice Chancellor Neerja Gupta.
