Section 192(2B) of the Income-tax Act was introduced since 1998 to enable a salaried taxpayer to furnish to his employer particulars of income under any head other than salary and report tax deduction at source (TDS) in this regard for purposes of computing the amount of TDS deductible on his salary.
Scope expanded by Finance Act, 2024
Finance Act, 2024 introduced an amendment to Section 192(2B) by expanding its scope to also include any Tax Collected at Source (TCS) or other amount of TDS, as a measure of simplification in compliance process for salaried taxpayers, so as to ensure that they could seek credit for such taxes paid at the stage of computing the TDS required to be deducted from their salary income. The said amendment was proposed to be made effective from 1st October, 2024.
