Though, Karl Capek, a Czech playwright, imagined factory-manufactured artificial people who undertook ordinary work for their human masters way back in the early 1900s. He eloquently narrated about them in his science fiction play "Rossum's Universal Robots" on Jan. 25, 1921. However, the utility of robots in the medical field remained unrealized for the next 67 years. The first robot in the medical field was used for neurosurgical biopsy in 1988. Soon after, its applications were extended to prostate surgery. Both applications of robotic surgery demonstrated enhanced perfection and reduced iatrogenic complications. Widespread use of robotic surgery followed in various surgical specialties, realizing its potential for improving outcomes and decreasing complications. Use of robotic surgery led to a smaller operative incision, enhanced perfection, less postoperative pain, smaller blood loss in surgery, and short hospital stays.
