HELMETLESS DRIVING
Following the Gujarat High Court's directive to enforce helmet rules and curb wrong-side driving on SG Highway, the city traffic police have taken strict action. As of August 12, they have booked 16,310 two-wheeler drivers and pillion riders caught without helmets, collecting a total fine of Rs 82.18 lakh. Additionally, 1,136 cases of wrongside driving, primarily on SG Highway, were registered, resulting in fines of Rs 20.06 lakh.
According to traffic police officials, the first offence for not wearing a helmet incurs a Rs 500 fine, the second offence a Rs 1,000 fine, and the third offence leads to the suspension of the driving licence.
Strict enforcement
The city traffic police have warned that they have conducted extensive awareness campaigns and are now focusing on strict enforcement.
