More often than not, children live in a world of fairytale, especially the ones that are brought up with immense love, patience, warmth and affection. However, the actual world, as they may realize in due course of time, may not always be as expected. It may not be fair, not always kind, and surely not always equal. Every child learns better by observing and viewing people and situations, be they pleasant or otherwise. And so, while children are on the journey of self-discovery, growth and learning, they are bound to have experiences that may not always be positive. It is there that they learn the best lessons, through people that play their part. How to maintain distance, move on or break away from anything or anyone that is bothersome, is key. Here's what you can share with your young ones...
Set boundaries and show how you do it
As parents, along with the many basics you teach your children, it is imperative that you show them what maintaining boundaries is like. If they find themselves in a difficult relationship or situation, it is for you to show them how to set limits and distance respectfully from anything that is detrimental to their happiness. Like, for example, if you have a friend that is toxic or one you want to move away from politely, show how it can be done by distancing yourself. Your child will see how self-respect and self-care is prioritized above all else.
