Immunity dose to awareness: India Inc gears up to fight virus

At Kizhakkambalam in Ernakulam district of Kerala - among the states that have reported a majority of Covid-19 cases in India - textile manufacturer Kitex Garments is leaving nothing to chance.

The world's second largest manufacturer of children's apparel with 11,000 employees, Kitex has devised a three-pronged defence strategy of modern medicine, homeopathy and ayurveda to keep the virus at bay.

About 8,000 of its employees have been housed in a dormitory block within the factory premises.

Sabu M Jacob, promoter and managing director, explains how they are taking cover from Covid.

Zincovit is being provided to employees in order to boost immunity. There's Arsenicum album as a preventive homeopathic. And finally, a mixture of 12 ayurvedic medicines combined with drinking water as an additional immunity booster.

The firm has also deployed four doctors on campus for health check-ups. The steps appear to be working, as no Covid case has been reported at the factory amid the ongoing surge.

Rising cases have put India Inc on guard fresh advisories on Covid-appropriate behaviour are resurfacing and companies across the board are "closely monitoring" the situation.

A couple of weeks ago, Jindal Steel & Power had issued an advisory to staffers to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour, including wearing masks. Now it's a must at plants and offices.
