It follows a massive parliamentary election win for Marine Le Pen.
She declared "democracy has spoken" after her party - the National Rally - achieved 33% of the popular vote in the first leg of a two-round poll.
This compared to just 22% for President Emmanuel Macron's Renaissance/Together coalition, and could lead to an absolute majority in the National Assembly for Ms Le Pen.
