And the national record holder is confident of upsetting the American and Jamaican favourites, despite having just one mediocre race since tearing his hamstring.
Abrahams was the first of three Britons to win the most iconic Olympic title, back in 1924 in Paris.
But the most recent one to achieve the feat, in 1992, is Hughes' inspiration.
An image of Linford Christie celebrating in Barcelona has been his phone screensaver for the past nine months, and he has been regularly seeking advice from his childhood idol.
