Les Brannan, 57, stayed put as Northampton's thriving market dwindled from 270 stalls in the 1980s to 25 last year and finally just him.
It came after the town centre marketplace shut for a £10million two year refurbishment. The council relocated traders to an isolated car park with no passing trade and within weeks stalls began to close.
Soon the market, which began in 1189 when Richard the Lionheart came to the throne, dwindled to just Les full-time.
