Logan MacPhail, 17, was unable to accept Holly Newton, 15, had ended their 18-month relationship, which began when they were Army cadets.
He stalked Holly relentlessly before launching a deadly assault that caused her 36 separate injuries.
The night before the murder, police found him lurking outside her mother's home. Arrangements were made with Holly and mum Micala Trussler for a meeting about how to deal with his obsessive behaviour.
But tragically he attacked Holly before the this could take place.
MacPhail was convicted of murder in August. He is due to be sentenced at the end of this month.
